A wayward gardener, a living farm, and a big idea.

MEET THE FARMER

Meet Wendy Farmer.

Wendy "Farmer" Mackie is the founder of America Way Seed & Soil Co. and is a lifelong ecosystem builder, educator, and recovering rule follower.

A native New Englander, Wendy grew up in Central Connecticut, spent 13 years on Cape Cod, and since 2013 has called Jamestown, Rhode Island home. The farm is named after the street where it lives — and where she lives alongside her partner Chuck and their two feline familiars, Blackie & Red.

Known as a wayward gardener, Wendy tends land the same way she tends communities: with curiosity, patience, humor, and deep respect for living systems.

This farm is her living classroom. It’s a place where youth, neighbors, and first-time growers discover that growing food also grows something else entirely: confidence, belonging, and the natural joy of making something live.

OUR MISSION

Growing food should feel possible for everyone.

America Way Seed & Soil Co. makes growing healthy food fun and accessible — through quality seeds, simple soil-building solutions, and the kind of education that feels more like a conversation than a class.

Every product we sell helps fund free food and free education for the local community. So when you buy a seed packet or a worm tea bag, you're not just growing something in your garden. You're growing something bigger.

Where the future takes root.

HOW WE DO IT

Seeds, soil, and a whole lot of worms.

We grow differently here — and we mean that literally.

The seeds. We prototype simple, replicable growing systems, like sunflower and pole bean pairings, that produce protein-rich food in even the smallest spaces. Heirloom. Non-GMO. Grown with intention.

The soil. Healthy food starts underground. Our resident Red Wigglers work around the clock — composting food scraps, leaves, and more into rich worm castings that feed our soil and everything growing in it. In 2026, we're adding sea kelp to the mix for even deeper nourishment.

The systems. From 20-foot cattle panel trellises to container gardens on a back porch, we're developing growing models that work in the real world — for real people with real lives and limited space.

And then we share everything we learn.

OUR VALUES

The Wayward Way.

We create living systems that nourish people, restore the earth, and cultivate a culture of sharing, stewardship, and generative growth.

🌱 Rooted in Place

We grow where we live and learn from the land beneath our feet.

🪱 Soil First

Healthy soil grows healthy food, healthy people, and healthy communities.

📚 Learning at the Center

We learn as we grow — embracing the joy of experimentation and bringing young people along as leaders, not passengers.

🌻 Play Is Sacred

Joy, curiosity, and wonder aren't extras. They're the whole point.

🤝 Share the Harvest

Food, knowledge, and opportunity are meant to circulate — not accumulate.

🌿 Grow Forward

We tend today's seeds for tomorrow's community.

LOOKING AHEAD

Everyone grows.

We're part of a larger community-based ecosystem — one where thriving neighborhoods are rooted in regenerative growing, shared stewardship, and living local economies that grow stronger for generations to come.

We envision a future where anyone can grow nourishing food, no matter how much space they have. Where hands go into dirt. Where worms do their quiet work. Where seeds become food and food develops community.

We're building that future one garden at a time — and we'd love for you to grow with us.

Come see it for yourself.

The gate is open. Whether you want to walk the garden, grab some seeds, or just say hello — we'd love to meet you.
