America Way Seed & Soil Co is a part of a larger community-based ecosystem - it does not begin or end with us, yet we are an integral part. We envision thriving communities rooted in regenerative growing, shared stewardship, and living local economies where people, soil, and food systems grow stronger together for generations to come.

We envision a future where anyone can grow nourishing food, no matter how much space they have. By prototyping vertical and companion planting systems, America Way Seed & Soil Co. develops simple, replicable growing models — like sunflower and pole bean pairings — that produce protein-packed food, seeds, and resilience in even the smallest spaces. These living systems help communities grow self-reliance, stewardship, and generative cycles of nourishment in fun and beautiful ways!

Successful and sustainable growing systems rely on nutrient-rich soil. America Way Seed and Soil Co. grows its soil with the help of our resident Red Wigglers. These hard working composting worms devour food scraps, leaves and more to generate castings that feed our soil and thus the plants we grow. In 2026, we will be adding sea kelp to our soil composition for additional benefits.

This farm was conceived to help feed people with healthy beautiful fresh veggies that nourish the soul and build community. With seed and soil as the primary financial products that support the farm operations, nutritious fresh food produced along the way becomes a beneficial by-product that can be freely distributed to the local community and those who tend the farm.

Meet Wendy Farmer

Wendy “Farmer” Mackie is the founder of America Way Seed & Soil Co. She is a lifelong ecosystem builder, educator, and recovering rule follower. A native New Englander, Wendy grew up in Central Connecticut, spent 13 years on Cape Cod, Massachusetts and, since 2013, calls Jamestown, Rhode Island home. The farm is named after the street where it and she resides with her soul mate Chuck and their two feline familiars, Blackie & Red.

Known as a wayward gardener, Wendy tends land the same way she tends communities: with curiosity, patience, humor, and deep respect for living systems. This farm is a living classroom where youth, neighbors, and dreamers learn that growing food also grows confidence, belonging, possibility and resilience.
